There is nothing quite like holding a lovingly crafted brochure fresh off the press. The subtleties of paper stock, spot varnish that lifts the images off the page and the tactile sensation of just holding the finished product.
Designing for print brings together the disciplines of the technical knowhow and the creative inspiration that make graphic design so appealing as a career and I never get tired of it.
With companies moving away from print in favour of digitally publishing their communication materials, the opportunity to differentiate your brand with stunning printed presentations is heightened. Allowing those who want to impress even more opportunity.
Priority Management Systems Inc.
A Global Training company with 75 offices around the world. Dedicated to helping companies train employees in best practice business techniques to manage their work and reduce stress.
As part of the overall rebranding project, I produced sales materials for the network of offices including, a capabilities brochure and presentation folder.
In conjunction with the new web sites I focused on the concept of finding a better way to work. Using a clean minimal design for all the materials while illustrating the often hectic environments where people rush about trying to get things done without any organized approach to their day.
Rather than waste money and resources printing the materials and then shipping them to 75 locations, I proposed making the final print files available to the network on the organization’s internal infonet. With instructions on how to localize the files to each office location and have them printed locally, avoiding substantial distribution costs.
SLR Consulting Canada
As an international brand, actively serving clients in three major geographic markets, it can be difficult to mange the brand image while being specific to the needs of each local market’s needs. I was asked to adapt and extend the brand materials for the Canadian and US markets while maintaing the look and feel set by the UK head Office.
I produced a wide range of brochures and industry specific sales materials including trade show displays with matching handouts, direct mail pieces and acquisition announcement brochures.
I have also produced data sheets and trade advertising to support their growth as a major force in the environmental consulting business.
APEG British Columbia
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia looks after the interests of all the engineers and geoscientists in BC with registration, licensing, professional development and student services.
Each year the association holds it’s annual meeting and awards. APEGBC have asked me to produce their President’s Award Program for the past two years.
Both programs were printed digitally to cost effectively produce quantities of under 500. The 2010 version combined digital printing for the inside with conventional lithographic printing for the cover. Allowing for a quality textured stock while maintaining cost savings of the digital process.
Early Minds
Education Inc.
A Vancouver based independent educational publishing company specializing in providing teaching expertise to parents of pre-school children needed an identity, book design and production, product development and promotional materials for their first book and the supporting products they sell online and in book stores across Canada.
I developed a large range of printed items for Early Minds Education, and produced hundreds of illustrations for both the product range and the promotion of the products to the stores and to the general public to promote sales of the book.
I also designed their web site where they sell their book to schools and to parents nationwide.
I am currently working on a full functioning web site with video lessons and an ibook version of the popular book Teaching Parents How To Teach. The new site will bring interactive lessons to the parent which will include downloadable materials for them to print, video instructions and ways to extend and advance each lesson.
Seacor Environmental
Was an employee owned National environmental consulting company located in Vancouver, Canada.
As part of a complete brand review conducted over the course of a year, I was asked to help guide the internal review and produce a wide range of printed material to communicate the new positioning.
This included re-designing the stationery, signage and web site.
To help them attract and retain the highest qualified Technical staff, I designed an employee benefits package that was given to prospective candidates to communicate the soft benefits of working with Seacor.
I also created a proposal design that would be used by the internal stakeholders to wrap all outside proposals to both existing and new customers. This included regional maps for each of their locations across Canada and industry specific covers that highlighted the technical capabilities they offered to their clients.
Certified General Accountants
The National Accounting Designation needed a way to communicate the high profile news about the work its members were doing in the business community across Canada.
I designed a broadsheet promotional newsletter that showcased the ways in which its members were influencing the business world they worked in.
‘Dialogue’ was produced in both English and French versions and distributed to its members and inserted into the trade press.
